Ideas for the club.

At the last meeting I asked people to give the BOD any ideas of things that they would like to see done or a direction that the club should be taking. We will be meeting this Friday to start going over our plan and would like to know the ideas of the club. I would ask though that this be a positive thread and we all respect the ideas of everyone. So Norman you can not post how stupid Brandons ideas are. If you do not want to post your Idea I will for you just PM me it.

How about some sort of mentoring program. Am thinking of some way to make it easier for newbies (like me) to hook up with someone more knowledgeable. This site and the meetings are great resources, but sometimes it would be nice to have a more direct contact for questions.

Establishing this type of knowledge network will happen over time via participation on this forum and meetings, but something to accelerate that process would be nice.

Maybe we could keep the MTRC website updated and even have a DYI video link that has videos of people within our club doing certain projects from start to finish so people can learn how to do many things without even asking..

Topics like:

Like how to build a sump
Drilling a tank
Aquascaping tips
Setting up a calcium reactor
Making your own stand and/or canopy
Making your own fish food
Fragging corals

I know there are alot of links and things that you could find online but this would be nice because you could actually SEE how it's being done instead of reading and trying to understand what is being read...

Also a review section would be nice...

While this is a very good suggestion, the biggest downside is reproducing the wheel. Redoing whats been done before. I would advise However a useful links section. This would be considerably easier to implement and maintain, and yet link to key videos & details to do the things outlined.

*ahem* I will have you know my emerald crabs have now caught up... as well as my skimmer. :p

Anyway, one idea we had tossed around about leaving to you guys was some paraphernalia. We had mentioned having some MTRC stickers made up.

More specifically than that, I think it would be cool if some of our graphic designers could come up with some simple graphics to do at something like Cafe Press where people can order what they want for an ok price and proceeds will go back to the club with very little effort involved. :)

Brandon

yeah another message board i use to frequent had somebody do a logo & then somebody made a cafepress page w/ tshirts, mugs, hoodies & such...went over real good

How about starting with something simple, like an actual clunc contact list? Name, Phone, and email would be great, along with area of residence. Participation optional, but I wouldd like that so I know who is in my area as well as call em up to come over for food, beer, and fish stuff.

I dont have time to go over my ideas at the moment but, one person had mentioned a mentor idea. Anyone is welcome to come over and learn what little knowledge I know. Bill has taught me a great deal as well many others from the club. Not to mention reading alot on here. Just an idea I am throwing out there to some of the new people. I have been in it long enough to know some stuff but, not long enough to remember to forget what it was like to be new and ALOT of common mistakes that are made. If anyone is interested let me know and we will go from there. If some of the new people would like to set up a little Q&A session I think it would be fun. I also know you can always learn something from everyone so I would like the idea as well. Wish everyone the best and hope your tank is doing great.

Andywe, if you will have a look at the club website, you will see most of what you seek. :)

And Rhett, I thought all of ReefCentral was a giant Q & A session?

andywe, Looks like you are very close to me. I do not drink beer, but would love a local meet. (Did I mention I was moving my tank in a couple of weeks ;) ) PM your contact info if you want to meet up.

Sure Michael. I'm not a drinker any more either, so coffee or a coke works. Lifting tanks is a little tough, but my F-250 and 7x12 enclosed cargo trailer can help if we schedule it. I have a sketchy schedule at the end of the month because the kid is flying in from Seattle to visit. You should also know that Mikeyjr and Mike Mathis also live out here too! PM me your contact info!

Brandon,

Have you looked at the list lately? It is in dire need of updating :-)

The Club Library is a bit hard to do. Its possible, but how do you handle people being late? Who keeps the books? How are the books purchased? Etc. Its doable, though, but it becomes like the PAR meter, which is hard to keep up with. Speaking of such, you still have it, right? Just a point in case. ;)

Brandon

yes who has the PAR meter i like to be inline for its use. and how do I sign up for it,all ready a club member.

Thanks Zef

Brandon Hmmmm, I was going to let the paraphernalia thing slide earlier but, now since you found it necessary to put a little laughing face next to one of my comments me and you are going to have a talk. Possession of paraphernalia is covered under T.C.A 39-17-425 and is illegal to have. I will swing by during my work hours and we can discuss it further. (LAUGH) As to the comment about the giant Q&A thing you are right but as for me I appreciate much more talking to someone face to face than typing on a keyboard and waiting a week or more to get all of my questions answered. Look forward to seeing you Brandon I believe I can get you ROR but no promises. (LAUGH)
