Ideas for the club.

this is an idea I read about from another club out in California doing. It is a coral program so that more corals are shared so that there is a little less harvesting of the reefs going on. I think it is called passing it along. But it goes like this. Say I get a frag from someone here and it grows and thrives well then before I can start selling it for money I have to give two frags away and in turn those two people have to do the same thing. So that one frag reached out further than it would if people were selling it all the time. Just an idea.

The Club Library is a bit hard to do. Its possible, but how do you handle people being late? Who keeps the books? How are the books purchased? Etc. Its doable, though, but it becomes like the PAR meter, which is hard to keep up with. Speaking of such, you still have it, right? Just a point in case. ;)

This is what makes you the perfect person to manage it Brandon!

Look, a club library can be more than just a check out situation. I have all 3 volumes of the Reef Aquarium by Sprung and someone. Awesome books. Vol 1 and 2 are about critters, and VOl 3 is all about chemistry, science, and hardware. Perhaps the library is a list of what someone has, and then you work it out with that someone? Please do brainstorm on.

I love you, too, Rhett. At least CJ's behind me. :D

zef: You will need to see Rhett about the PAR meter. There was a thread going a few weeks ago about it, but its up to him as to whether he wants to use that or another system that would work better for him. :)

andywe: I'm actually no longer the secretary, but that is a really good idea on the list and a possibility. That also assumes that whoever owns the books would be A) Willing to loan them out and B) Willing to take responsibility for getting them back, which may or may not be the case for everyone with books. But it is a great idea I think.

Bill took the par meter to someone after I used it I will check and see who he took it to. Brandon you know I was kidding hope I can get another one of those polyps from you before long.

I say one main thing we need is the website maintained and used. This was a key part of my previous club. I was one of the founding members of the club ( only 4 of us at the first 3 meetings, lol) and we built it up to over 350 members in 3 yrs. A major part of the success was the website. We used it a a major local marketing tool for local people. The forums we built there for everyone locally to use. The nice thing is you can use the search functionality without being a paying member (hint, hint reefcentral....) Here is the link to it so you can see Palm Beach Marine Aquarium Society It does take time and some dedicated people to do, but personally a dead website does not look good for a club.

Speaking of par meters, put me in line, where ever that list is at......

PM commonstranger. He is the new club secretary and will be taking care of the list. :)

EDIT: That is a great looking website! Looks like an awesome club.

ok, thanks Brandon!!

It is a great feeling when you start something like that and see it going strong. There were a few failed attempts in the past to start a club in our area, and this one has been going since 2004 now.

A club site makes it a lot easier to show someone that is just starting out where to look for ideas and help. A lot of new people go to reef central and are overwhelmed with the magnitude of the site.

Titans fan I don't think anyone was saying anything about you having it for 2 weeks I am mostly to blame about not getting it passed around when I was Treas. we never set any type of checkout system and it sat on a shelf for a long time before we figured out a system. I hope it is working better now.
