Identification crab.

Pteradon

New member
Hello,

I am David, 40 years old and living in the Netherlands.
I have almost zero experience with saltwater aquaria.
On 20 december 2015 i started with an RSM250.

This morning, 22 feb 2016, i saw the "armor" of an crab in my tank.
I have seen this crab sometimes between the stones, but it's a bit shy.
I had never a good opportunity to make a good photo of the crab for identification.

Till now.

Is this a "good" crab to hold in an saltwater aquarium?

Thanks for the replies.

In my opinion there is no such thing as a "good" crab in your main tank. Get rid of it.
Thank you for sharing your opinion. I will gather some more information about before i get rid of it.

Black pointy claws = bad. The sump is a great place for it IMO
Sadly the RSM250 doesn't have a regular sump.

Thanks for those links. Usefull information. After reading, i think the crab in my aquarium is a Mithrax crab. Because i am still in an early start-up phase, i dont have any corals. Only two anemone's and a couple of buttons. But i do have a lot of algea growing in my aquarium. More than my three Turbo-snails and my Salarias can handle. :)
