it appears mostly red, but also has some purple in it. there is a black dot at the top of the tail.

tia for any assistance in identifying this fish.

beetre picture would be good but amybe a rose fin fairy from coral sea. Where did u buy this and how much did you apy and what was it labled as?

bought him at a lfs. it was labeled as a "red parrotfish", but it's obviously a fairy wrasse. i honestly don't remember what i paid for him...i bought 3 fish and a pistol shrimp and spent $68 after tax. i'd guess he was about $19.

Resembles my Red Long Fin Fairy Wrasse but as stated above, A better picture is needed for anyone to be sure. Definately not a parrotfish as you well know. :)

Judging by the black spot near the tail,it is still a juvenile.I don't recofnize the species from the first pic,but they can grow up looking very different from their juvenile state.

does it have any light horizontal lines going down it's body? Are the lines broken, or continuous? By the color it looks like a lubbock, but it has that fake eye (black dot), so it is deffinatly a juvenile. It will be very hard to ID because fairy wrasses like to imitate other fairy wrasses in their infantcy.

i don't see any lines in it. it's pretty much just a pinkish/redish color with some purple floresence under the actinic. bottom of it is white. fins are pretty much clear...no real color to speak of.

can't wait to see what it turns into.
