Hey guys,

I purchased this Zoa today and it looks like there maybe something that came along. Can you tell me if this green tube like thing is something to be worried about?

Thanks,

John

Looks like a vermatid snail, there ok to have in a reef tank but they reproduce in your tank very easily. They use mucus nets to catch food and it sometimes ends up floating around in the tank, it can bother corals but mainly SPS corals.

My LFS said it could be a Tunicate. Is that possible? Reading up on Vermatid snails is making me unhappy

I dont have experience with Fragging. I am a noob.

Googling Vermatid snail it looks like I may have a couple already in the tank.

People suggest super glueing the tube shut

or

bumble bee hit squads.

Thoughts?

No to bumble bees, those guys eat anything and probably not be easy to find all of them if you decide to remove them. Sealing them shut is best or cutting them off even better.

To frag just take some cutters (ideally new as to not introduce unwanted chemicals into your system) and just chip/cut it off. Some or all the zoas may come unattached so be prepared to glue them back. If done right they'll be low to non casualties. If done wrong you could lose the whole colony.
