I just got a yellow figi leather coral from liveaquaria and it had a hitch hiker that seemed to be a sea star. It was about 3/4 of an inches wide, yellow/green in color (almost blended in with the yellow figi) had five skinny legs that almost seemed "spikey" so to speak. I ran for my camera to get a picture but when I came back it was gone. At this point I don't know if it is hidden in the tank somewhere or lunch for the clown fish or someone else. Any ideas on what it may be from what little I have? Any possible harm to the corals in my tank if it survives and gets bigger? Thanks!!

It sounds like a brittle sea star. They're nocturnal and reef safe too. They dont tolerate rapidly changing water params though. Other then that they're alright.

cool, I hope it survives. any idea what you feed brittle sea stars, or is it too little to worry about that yet?

It could be some sort of micro star or a baby brittle star. I would nt be too concerned about feeding it chances are its a detritus/carion feeder and will do well just on the scraps left over from feeding fish. There are some predatory brittle stars, but at its current size if it is one chances are it isnt much of a threat.

I guess I'll get a better idea of what it is if it survives and gets bigger. With my luck it'll wind up food for the clown fish, anenome, or bubble coral.
