A buddy who has been treating for AEFW noticed these black specks on the skeleton of his acros. I took a macro picture in hopes someone can help identify what this is.

They don't move. He was treating his qt tank with Bayer.

Any help is appreciated.

Using the term "skeleton" here is misleading to me. There appears to be absolute living tissue present here... Healthy even. When I hear skeleton I presume that it is dead and free of living tissue. That said, I've never seen anything like this... very strange. It almost looks like little granules of carbon stuck to it.

I would cut a branch off and cut into it to see - I had an acro several years ago the started rotting from the inside out after attacked by AEFW.
