both are very bright in person and have grown since these pics have been taken

thanks

Very pretty acans, especially that first one :D. The best way is to cut with a nice small scale ban saw through the coral, when you are really good you can follow the polyp lines so as not to cut polyps in half...when your not so good just cut the polyps in half :), mount and let them heal.

As far as price, hmmmmmm, they seem really nice but I am not really sure these days on acan subechinata prices. Maybe someone else will chime in on the price part of the question.

thanks for the 411 on how to frag i guess im just affraid of hurtin the poor suckers lol

and yeah i know acans arent as popular as they used to be which sucks lol

You can also use a hammer :D . I usually cut my hard corals with a hammer and a large flat head screw driver. But if you have the patience the aove, more gentle method is probably better

I like the hammer/chisel technique for these types. The ripped edge it produces encourages new growth =)

If you score the back with a dremel it is much easier to chip off, don't worry too much about polyps since these types of corals are typically sold by frag size (ie: 1" square)

Ahhhh, see...the real expert speaks on fragging. Thanks for clarifying the best way to frag these, your way sounds easier than my way :).

thanks guys sounds easy enough!

now is it even worth fraggin them price range or are these things just run of the mill these days

the other problem with the more precise dremel cutting wheel approach is the heat generated may damage more peripheral tissue, as opposed to the barbaric hammer method.

A lfs frags acans with a wetsaw using saltwater in the wet tub. He swears that this produces a clean, fast healing edge, and I have to agree. I love both corals and had a similar acan to the first. Good luck, they are beautiful.

Saltwater + wetsaw= :eek2:

That's crazy, I would never use saltwater with a wetsaw. nutz
How does he keep it fom corroding/rusting to hell?

hammer & chisel/screwdriver is the easiest/fastest.

Freshwater and then a little cooking oil (olive oil or some such). The oil keeps the air out and prevents oxidation.

I watched a video of Eric Borneman fragging with a rock saw the other day. He said that the blade was so thin it was like cutting with a scalpel. Supposedly the cuts heal really fast since they're so clean.

i had a large acan lord colony that we just fragged w/ a wet tile saw at my last club meeting. the frags came out great and the polyps that got cut in half healed nicely.

if people want pics i can post them later.
