If pump is set to min speed....

If the vortech's 100% speed is set to the min of 500gph, what happens at night mode and reef crest etc? Is the 500 just our minimum and but through the programs, it can go as low as...say 50gph?

During night mode the pump will reset to 50% of the pot setting and run constantly at that speed. The minimum speed of the pump is 1000 gph, so any flow setting which is below 2000 gph will just go down to 1000 gph and stay at that speed.

oops. 1000.

I was refering more to this.

http://www.ecotechmarine.com/images/Operational_Mode_Charts.jpg

The various modes changes the pump from ~0 to 100% of Max Speed (y-axis label).

Max speed is user defined.
So say I define the max speed to be the minimum rating (1000 on the MP40).

Will nighttime mode go to 500 or stay at 1000?
Will reef crest randomize between ~0 to 1000 or stay at 1000?
Will lagoon/short pules/long pulse rrange between 200 and 1000 or stay at 1000?

Basically, if I want a 1000gph flow rate on the MP40, does it effectively have zero modes of operation? (ie ALWAYS on at 1000 gph regardless of mode or night time)
THanks for the clarification.

Sill on the fence on what to order. Is a Vortech 40MP set to 1000gph going to be at 1000gph 100% of the time no matter what mode it is set to?

If an MP40w or an MP20 is placed at minimum speed and then entered into any mode (random, pulse, night), it will not actually change speeds. You must be a little higher than the minimum to see speed changes. If you believe that your MP40w pump would be at min (1000gph) on your tank and you want variable speed, you may benefit more from an MP20 which would then be able to operate between 1000 and 500 gph.
