If you had a 29gallon

I am currently still setting up my tank, but would like to know your opinions on what fish and how many different fish would be happy in a 29 gallon. Keep in mind I already have 2 percula clowns in a 10 gallon waiting for me to finish the thier new home.

One more question, would a darf lion be considered reef safe?

I have heard different opinions and was wondering what you guys think.

If they are would one be ok in a 29 with corals and other fish?

2 Percula Clownfish
Yellow Watchmen Goby w/ Pistol Shrimp
Some type of Small Wrasse, possibly Possum or Sixline

You cannot fit a dwarf lion in a 29g, dunno if they're reef safe tho.

I would pass on the Lion. It would be really crowded with a dwarf lion and 2 clowns. In my former 29 gallon I has a pair of Percs and a six line wrasse.

I currently have a flame angelfish, mystery wrasse and acherry dottyback (do not recommend) in my tank.

Lions are sort of "reef safe", as in they won't bother corals, but they will eat any shrimps, and in your case, the clownfish. Though you should know, dwarf lions spend the whole day on the tank bottom hiding (ie: they are not like the volitans lion, which is more likely to drift in open water).

darn.....if u didnt have the clowns i say peacock mantis..hehe but could do a flame angel maybe like a serpent star?

I plan on:

Mixed reef

2 Chromis
1 Flame or coral beauty angel
1 Nemo clown
1 Sixline Wrasse

This will be filtered by about 45# of LR, macro algae fuge, DSB, and skimmer

The lion would be able to eat the clowns, sadly. But there's the dwarf moray which could work if you're looking for an unusual option (provided you stay on top of the water quality). The clowns should be fine if they aren't babies.

Another option is a yashia shrimp goby and a pistol shrimp, and maybe a royal gramma or something, plus the clowns. That would give a nice mix of colors.

Cool thanks. Howmany fish would think would be happy in my tank?
Since I have my 2 percula clowns I want to add an anemene for them but I am nervous because I dont want to get one have it kill my other fish and possibly some corals do you think it would be ok?

I see some of you recomending angels I thought they werent reef safe?

I think 4 small fish would be okay.

A BTA shouldn't be able to kill a fish; they just don't have a strong enough sting. It could sting corals though, so when it starts to move be sure you've moved corals out of its path.

Angels are a risk. You basically have a 50/50 shot for the very best species to be reef safe concerning the smaller angels. Don't add one unless you know you can get it out.

in my 29 i currently have
1 black clown goby
pair of yellow watchmans
pair of pearly jawfish
and a coral beauty

I'd keep it to four fish.

At one time I had a pair of o. clowns, a coral beauty (Lukily the smallest one I've ever seen at an LFS) and an orchid dottyback in a 26 bow. I really enjoyed that grouping of fish, but I would not get a CB in that small tank unless I was sure of an upgrade in the future.

The orchid dottyback is a personal favorite of mine and no where near as aggresive as many of its family. GREAT fish for a small reef tank.

A pistol shrimp and goby pair is a great option too.

I'd try a frog spawn instead of an anemone, easier to keep and my percs love it.

Ok so 4 fish it will be. I am curious about the frog spawn. I never heard of one do you have any pictures of yours. If they arent as agressive as most anenemes then I will definately try to go get one.

Heres a picture of my frogspawn its an lps coral
as far as stock for my 29g i have
clown
starry blenny
cherub pygmy angel
yellowtail damsel
cleaner shrimp
2 sexy shrimp

IME I've never seen clowns kill a frogspawn, I have seen them irritate a Goniopora and its polyps wouldn't extend/ feed. There is no guarantee clowns will host what you want them too, they wiggle where they want.
