If you have used Chemi Clean....

Hey guys!

I just recently tonight purchased some chemi clean to clear up a cyano problem I am having. 3 weeks prior I increased flow, reduced my phosphates and leveled all water perms with no result in reducing the cyano.

The instructions say to add an airstone, dump the scoops of Chemi clean in and then make sure the portein skimmer, and any type of carbon filter are off. Then do a 20% water change after 48 hrs.

My question is, do I need to leave the airstone running in there for 48 hrs, and if I have a emperor bio wheel with carbon in it does that need to be off, because right now it is? Which means I have no filtration running beside the biological filtration such as live rock and substrate in the tank. When can I add another dosage of my 4 scoops?

also give me any advice you have on using chemi clean if you have prior.

Thanks,

Lisa

I battled cyano for about 6 weeks. it started in a new frag tank I hooked up to my display, got all over my zoas and I lost a lot of them. Finally last weekend I gave in and went with the chemi-clean. I worked wonderful, all the cyano was gone in 36 hours, zoas I havent seen open in well over a month were open 2 days later. I think I would keep your bio-wheel running but take out the carbon and replace it with some poly filter. Keep the bubblestone going until you turn your skimmer back on and do the big water change as well as replaceing your carbon and remove the poly filter that ran during the treatment. When you turn your skimmer back on beware,it will probably overflow in the first 5 minutes. I dialed mine to skim as dry as possible and it filled the cup in a couple of hours but this subsided after 2 or 3 cups full. Just make sure you dont let the treatment go any longer than recomended(I actually only went 36 hours),and be sure to do the water change. Ive also changed my poly filter I use above my sump twice since the treatment, just to be safe. Good luck with your treatment.
