Illegal caulerpa

The primary one is Caulerpa taxifolia, dubbed the 'killer algae' by the media. There are 8 others that are now banned in California, too, as they've also been deemed either destructive or too difficult for hobbyists to distinguish from taxifolia.

Here's the complete list of the banned 9:

C. taxifolia
C. racemosa
C. mexicana
C. scalpelliformis
C. verticillata
C. floridana
C. cupressoides
C. sertularoides
C. ashmeidii

Is it me or doesn't everyone have at least one of these forms of caulepra in their system somewhere.....

Well perhaps not everyone....But, most aquarist whom use a refugium ought to have some form of macroalgae in their to help boost their tank paramaters right along....

.....So what would be the charge or penalty fees for having possession of one of these deadly caulepra....

Not much you can do about it if it magically appears out of LR and DSB after 3 yrs. I didn't add it, but it appeared.... currently in the cooking process.

IIRC, fines start at $500.

Posession is one fine. Growing it is another fine. Giving it away, selling it, transporting it, etc, etc.

I guess it's time to gather all the greens and put them in a plastic bag and freeze them and throw them away in a trash compactor.......:( :( :(

What would you do....Get a fine for a little piece of grass .......That just grew out of nowhere.....

or just throw the ones that look like those 7 or was it 9 deadly caulepras....

---In some respects ....This stuff aint like the other green leaves that people grow for export from columbia or cuba......and is illegal in all the 50 states....:D :D :D

And besides what kind of person, reefer or hobbiyst would even think of disposing this sort of thing in the ocean......

I think the goverment and homeland secuirty already have enough on their minds....(Iraq, Lebanon, Israel, Osama Bin Laden, and stupid americans who try to cause some sort of domestic terroism...)_______

In my 32 years of growing up in this fine country of ours I can attest to one thing that I can safely say Ive learned and it's...

1.You never know......
