i'm new to salt water how can you tell male's from female" clownfish???

Just buy two juvenile clowns and they will form into a pair the larger one will be the female and the smaller one will be the male.

they are not visually sexed as juv's, once they get older the easiest way is the Larger is usually the female and she is usually more agressive, the males are smaller and submissive.

They are some kind of hermaphroditic animal they may start as males or something to that effect... some one else should know the details :)

Hope this helps :)

Enjoy the hobby and have fun :) Welcome to R.C. if you haven't seen the swimming fish welcome banner it will show up soon I'm sure :)

I've heard people talking about fish changing sex is that what your referring to ?

they are born sexless and then transform from sexless to male or female depending on the social enviroment they are in, also once a male is a male he can still change to female but a female will not change back to male.

Females will typically be larger than the males, and in many cases the females have less intense coloration than the males. The females will also (usually) be more aggressive than the males. With clowns, though, all of these are just "usually-s." :)

My understanding was that they are all born as Juve Males. But only the 2nd biggest clownfish will become a sexually mature male (The biggest clown is female).
