Due to work I won't be able to dose my tank its vodka + amino acids for 1 entire week. Is this bad? Should I expect anything to go wrong? My ca/alk should be fine due to my ca/rx. I was dosing 2.5ml per day since I was on week 4 of vodka. Thanks

you should be fine, your tank isnt going to crash or anything at least not from the stopping of dosing will it crash , at the most ur no3 and po4 can possibly rise. Just have whoever thats feeding the tank dose for you

this is what Eric Borneman says about Vodka dosing-

"Long story short, it works by increasing bacteria which can deplete oxygen, change the normal immune and nutrient providing normal coral microbial flora, change the entire functioning microbial community in the tank, is correlated with coral disease, and can kill your tank. All to reduce nutrients which, if the tank is set-up right, shouldn't have that problem and if it is not, could be safely and easily fixed with water changes."

Very interesting. Id like to research further about this eric borneman and id like to see whats his creditability is. As of now ill be stopping dosing vodka for 1 week. I can't wait till I get home to see the difference in my tank without any vodka!

I would say a very reliable source for info. Good author too. I read allot of reef stuff besides the forum and the stuff he writes is excellent. You might look up also (spelling?) Calfo, Nilson and Fossa, Fenner. All good stuff.

That quote was more of an opinion or personal observation I would say, seeing how other people have good experiences with vodka.

Probably ought to start out slow when you begin dosing again and work your way back up to your target amount. Like starting over.

Eric is a lawn gnome scientist and author of the book "Aquarium Corals".

He's also the main man at the Waikiki Aquarium. He definitely knows his sh*t. I attended his coral nutrition talk at MACNA this year and it was factful, a bit hard to follow(very technical), but informative. He did express his views on vodka dosing during this talk.

Eric Borneman is not at Waikiki. you are thinking of Charles Delbeek who is now at the Steinhart in San Francisco.

Charles Delbeek and Julian Sprung are the authors of the three volumes of "The Reef Aquarium"

i did not write "Lawn Gnome" scientist. i wrote coral scientist as in PHD scientist in coral biology.

SOMEONE WITH ADMIN PRIVILEGES CHANGED WHAT I WROTE. WHY DID YOU DO THAT? IT IS NOT FUNNY AND DEMEANS THE WHOLE DISCUSSION.

please restore my original post.

here is my original quote.

It's april fool's day... relax.

Nothing is going to go wrong, aside from a possible slight rise in PO4 and/or Nitrates. Just resume your dosing once you get back. Do not over dose to make up for the doses you missed.

As long as you stick to the rules (Good Skimmer, Don't Overdose, Don't Overdose, Don't Overdose, um..... Don't Overdose) it's perfectly safe. I go by the guidelines set by the RC Article "Vodka Dosing... Distilled".

I've been dosing vodka since Late November 08'. No problems at all in that time period with any fish or corals.

Haha it's all good.

I prefered last years Beef Central to Wreath Central, but I did get a nice chuckle this morning.
