Image Editing Software

I need to know what you use to edit or touch up photos. I have an OK camera. Close ups dont work, and really want to work on clearing a up a few cool pics. I heard about a free software available like Photoshop, but free and downloadable. Anyone know it?

IF you are looking for free photo editing software, the only one that I can think of is GIMP.
