In addition to my lawnmower blenny, I have a 4 gallon reef tank on my desk. All of the sudden the pistol keeps snapping but there is nothing else in the tank besides his goby who is not near him when he does this. Could he be sick or something?

My pistol would snap at my goby once in a while. If he's not bothering the fish I wouldn't worry about it. Mine would get a bug up his behind when I fed clam & snap at the fish. The fish had enough one time & pushed an empty snail shell on the shrimp & it stopped.

that's awesome! Mine just kind of stays away from the shrimp but the shrimp follows him around the little tank and is like half his size. Maybe he's just calling him...lol!

I'm thinking maybe the pistol found a bug in its house. Some kind of worm, perhaps, or something edible.
Or it could be attempting to attract the attention of a goby.
