i'm flushing out a new idea, i'm thinking of adding a kriesel inline with my sump.

i've got a couple rough drawings i'm working on i'll try to post later tonight

What do you intend to keep in it? You might find that a spray bar, angled to move water parallel to the screen will work better long term. In your drawing, it is likely that any delicate organisms would be impinged on the screen.

Why not put the return in the center of the sump, T off the return pump with a valve, and run flow through the kreisel as an "accessory" where you can adjust the flow through that portion to meet its needs rather than have all the flow through the sump run through it.

well if it works as intended it should collect any larvae that come down from the display tank. some would probably get beat up but a % would surivive.

nah clogging isn't an issue with proper maintenance,

i have a 2nd revision drawing coming later tonight,

jay if i was to use a spray bar, i would want it mounted under the screen pushing parallel to it with the flow correct?

The multi-hole spray bar should be positioned above the screen, blowing downwards, over it. Some of that water will go immediatly through the screen, but most of it will gently blow any animals off the screen, and around in a circle (which is why you want a Kreisel in the first place). Eventually, the animals will be held in a circular "holding pattern" in the center of the water column, and not touch any hard surface. This is how jelly exhibits and larval marine fish rearing tanks work.
