in need of a pump

it's only 1100gph circulation. it wouldn't do anything for pumping multiple tanks especially upstairs, or do *anything* for a beckett skimmer. no pressure whatsoever.

Steve I have a few motors if you are intersted, all you need is the pump. I have a few 1/2 HP, 2 H/P and a 3 H/P all never used and some with spare capps. Just a thought.

duh, I've been reading this whole thread and totally forgot that I have a MONSTER pump. its a dolphin MagneTek. The only reaon I'm not using it and blowing the scales off my fish is that it uses 7.2 amps. Amps x volts= 7.2 x 115=830 watts:eek1: :eek1:

If you'd like to borrow it its yours.

thanks everyone, after conferring w/ my guru of the seaworld he says the Genx 4 should do fine, premium aquatics has them for 120$ if anyone is in need, Colleen did you ever decide which pump to go w/?

is that what's written on the pump or did you see that on a curve? bigger pumps usually show the startup amps (the first couple seconds), which is *much* higher than the running amps.

I had pretty much decided to go with the Dolphin Ampmaster 3000, but after seeing Mborts genx I'm torn. I'm still hoping to see a actual flow chart for the gen x instead of some reference to it being like an Iwaki....looking for some hard numbers to compare it to the ampmaster.

I couldn't find a flow chart for it (I wish). It was written on the pump.

then the running amps could very well be 1/2 or even possibly 1/3 of that number.

And I have not 1 but 2 of these beasts and I have been dying to use them but until I can get a flow chart and Prove to Boris that I won't be sucking a zillion watts and raising the electric bill to even more ridiculous proportions then I'll never get them within 6 feet of the tank.LOL

bummer I finally found out that they are the Dolphin HHS series pump so I could find the flow chart for them. At 16 ft head they deliver 4,200 GPH BUT at that head the curve says they are still using 6.8 amps.

tho for someone needing a very high head, it has a shut off of 56 foot head.

my lord. that draw is actually pretty good still considering 56 fraking feet. are you interested in selling them? Z might be interested in using one in their new store setup. i'll ask them if you want.

doc, you could use 1 of these pumps to drive the beckett and all your tanks all at the same time. might work out to be more efficient than multiple pumps.

thanks Matt, please ask them for me. I actually got them from a store closing, they were used for less than 6 months before they went out of buisness.
