in progress - treatement of flatworm

I am using the salifert flatworm exit. I do not see any flatworms in the main tank plus I have a six line wrasse in that tank.

I seperated my main tank from my sump/fuge. I am treating the sump/fuge which is a 100 gallon stock tank. It says 4 drops for 5 gallons. I estimated that the 100 gallon stock tank had about 55 gallons of water volume in it. I dosed 48 drops, set the timer for 45 min's. After 40 min's of no death, I dosed another 24 drops. After another 30 min's I dosed another 12 drops.

I still see them moving around.

-can I overdose?
-they look just like the millions of pictures that I have seen. Could they be something else?
-WHAT AM I DOING WRONG????

Its 11pm and I *should* go to work tomorrow. What to do what to do?

I got 50 gallons of salt makeup and another 50 of RO.

I also have a chamber of forced carbon on standby

protein skimmer is on - usual activity regarding foam

added more, then thought I might as well use the whole damn bottle. Went to town and came home (30 min's). Most look dead, however still a couple of them moving around. I just don't get it.

Does flatworm exit really & always work???

A picture would help . A six line wrasse should be effective against flatworms, bristleworms, pods, micro starfish, and just about anything that it can hunt/eat .. akin to a great white shark when it comes to small critters in the tank.

Yeah, I think the six line is why I did not need to treat the main tank. I at least decreased the population.

Anyone know of any other treatments that may work better than flatworm exit?

The stuff does work. In my 150 I originally used in as directed and had only temporary success. I then purchased 2 more. I used one whole bottle, turned off the skimmer had my carbon and about 30 gallons of salt water ready for water change. I then used a strong power head by hand and with the stream hit all the places that I could. I waited 2 hours while closely watching my fish and corals.

When it was all said and done they were all gone. And I mean all gone. Did the water change turned on the carbon and skimmer and Lived happily ever after. :)

Then only casualties I noticed were my tiny serpent stars.

Good Luck.

2 hours? oh. That is about how long it took on mine. Eventually. The directions said you should notice death in about 45 min or less. I did not. But more time may have done the trick instead of more flatworm exit.

Bottom line, I treated and everything is all good now.

Hey Bigzero, did you do the suggested retreatment?

I do recommend it. If you have a huge population of flatworms I would do this in two step process. Those flatworms are really toxic and if you have an abundance of them doing a partial water change after the first dose might would keep the toxic extract of the flatworms at a minimum. Melves Reef website has a great article on his experience with flatworm exit. I would give it a read.

Ckoral, I originally tried the suggested treament with limited success. I then tried it again same way. It looked like it worked but after a couple of days they were still around. Then I got really aggressive with the dosing and time. Gone they are.
