in tank vs in sump

I moved my in sump 9010 to an in tank location and noticed some but not much decrease in output, Roger, as one of the few sellers of good skimmers that can work both in tank and in sump do you or Tunze have any quantitative data on how important it is to skim from the surface?

The 9010 recirculates 30% of the water with the sliding door wide open mounted in tank. This could be why you have noticed a small decrease in performance. I use a Nano Cleaner for surface skimming, but have not noticed an increase in skimmer performance since its introduction. I am guessing this is because my two 6055s never allowed a surface film to form in the first place.

As smatter said, it is more the way the skimmer works in tank, it works a bit slower as some water is recirculated. It would be odd for a properly set up reef tank with good flow to have a stratification where more protein was at the surface.
