In-Wall 180 Project

Check you prefilters too. I change mine every six months whether needed or not and it seems to keep my resins up longer.

i read your tank log, and i went through some similar happenings (although i did work as a finish capenter (read baseboard layer) when i was 15), going from no tools, to table, chop saw, router, staining lessons, drills, woodwork, high electric bills (now), moving, phosphate problems. i just didnt document them, but you have done an awesome job. i have the ac set on the highest it can be to keep the tank at 78-81 and twin 10" fans in my canopy. its cooling off alot in fl and i can shut off the ac and run a big box fan so im hoping to see a huge reduction in electric. $300 for a 600 sq ft apartment is way too much. im glad to see you didnt shut down your tank b/c of electric, and best of luck with iraq. i diy'ed my stand, canopy, skimmer, and sump set up. im looking to break into a diy automation setup, as i find it interesting and would like to learn more about programming and stuff like that, but on the same end i like fiddling too so anyway.

Thanks for the compliment! I look at this creation every now and again and shake my head when I realize that I actually built it. :D

Yep, I keep the AC at around 85 or so during the day and maybe 82 at night. That didnt keep the wife from running the thing all the time when it was very hot though. Still had a $580 electric bill in August. :(

The fan blowing across the surface has kept my tank in the 78-81 degree range CONSISTENTLY. Now, I have to turn it back a little cause I think it's dropping too low in temp at night. Saw it down to 75 at 3:00am on night last week.

YEAH!!

Beat the water problem! Got my TDS meter, Filmtec 100gpd membrane and new resin in the mail from H2oSplash (I highly recommend this ebay seller).

The TDS of my RODI water prior to the changes last night was 45-48. That explained the battle with Cyano and huge globs of Algae in my overflow.

My Water General unit was built for 100gpd, but I had a 75gpd put in it for higher rejection when I bought it in 05. I went ahead and put a new Filmtec membrane in there at 100gpd.

Changing the membrane brought the TDS down to 3-4. Changing the resin after that brought it down to 0!!

I am now TDS's daddy! :smokin:

Time for a huge water change this weekend.

jarhed, thank you for documenting this...

jarhed, thank you for documenting this...

Do you happen to have any close-up pics of your trim? Also, how did you do it?

Thanks!

I'll see if I can snap one and post it. It's not the cleanest job but it seems to look nice.

I have had a lot of serious cyano issues for the past six months. It just doesnt want to go away. Apparently, some water quality issues creeped in there too and most of my SPS bleached and died. Lots of things have changed lately and I'm seriously considering moving to Houston. Either that, or I'm deploying this summer. Either way, I'll have to part out the tank. Just gotta figure out what I'm doing first.

I'll grab some pics.

Wow! I've just finished reading your thread and after all of your hard work your thinking of moving! That's the one thing which I dread and is always subliminally in the back of my mind... Can you help a brotha out and let me know the name of the coral you have/had on page 21 - the 1st pic, as I think I have the same one but the store I got it from didn't label it properly.

How did you get on with your ich outbreak - or did I miss that part...?
