In wall aquarium questions

My basement inwall is not exactly typical... I used the space originally intended for a direct vent gas fireplace.

The basement is a great place for the tank due to the constant 65deg temp. The tank actually helps heat the room.

One of the best things I installed was drain / fill plumbing from the Mix tank to the fuge. (the pvc that runs around the wall in the pict below).

I agree with making sure you have plenty of access above (and below).

I also had 2 dedicated GFCI circuits installed. I have divided pumps and heaters between the 2 circuits.
 
I am in the process of building a light rail system that will allow me to pull my lumenarcs out of the way to do maintaince on the tank.

great idea on having some type of light source in the ceiling... it would be nice to be able to see what I am working on
 
I will have to very strongly agree with the front access thing. It is easy to overlook (I know I did it) I had to re do some things to straighten that out. Also consider the sides of your tank where it goes through the wall. Might want to leave some room there to.
