In-wall Tanks support question

I'm doing a 120G in-wall and I will like the glass to be flush with the drywall. I do understand that the tank pressure points are in the frame. Would the tank be ok seating in a stand where the front of the tank is supported by plywood only? It will only be offset by 1/2 inch.

Hope you understand. I tried a drawing for you. Once again,

The whole tank will be seating on top off plywood, and the plywood will be supported by 2x4s and 2x6s. But the plywood on the front, will stick out by 1/2" and the tank will seat on top of the plywood. So, 1/2 of the tank will be supported by plywood only.

What do you think?

I wouldn't be comfortable with that personally. Plywood is nowhere near as strong in that orientation as it is if you were using a sheet of plywood where you have the drywall in the pic.

I'd just have the tank inset into the wall the 1/2".

If you want the glass flush with the face of the drywall, you could use a hardwood 1 X 3 ( 3/4" thick) and inset it into the studs 1/4" and then tape & finish your drywall right up & over it
inset 1 X 3 is in red
insetting it and gluing & screwing it to secure should provide all the support that edge needs, just a thought

I ran mine up to the drywall (actually a drywall/plaster hybrid) and then assembled frame around the drywall edge to clean it up. Turned out rather nice.

I'm with the others though and do not like the idea about hanging that edge out there. That is where about 35% of your tanks weight is coming down and not having anything there bothers me.

looking back at my post, maybe a 1X3 is not enough, you could upsize that & let in a 2X4 for not much more effort & a lot more piece of mind
supporting a tank, more is better!
