Indentify Weird Thing Growing on Homemade rock

Ok, there's a thing growing on a rock in my tank. It looks exactly like a little white mushroom that you see in the dirt sometimes. The head is about .5 cm wide and the total height is 1 cm. The head grows on a very thin stalk, and the whole thing is light gray. It has never moved as far as I can tell. I don't know how it got there either because I manufactured the rock (cement, shell, etc.). So it either had to come from a spore or something, but I haven't seen anything else like it in my tank....

It's really small, and so far, the camera can't get focus on it. I'll try again when I turn the main lights on.

Thanks in advance for the help,

Derrick

A pic would help, but I realize it's small. It could be a hydroid. It could have come with any corals you've introduced as well as any live rock you may be seeding with.

I couldn't get a good picture of it because it's in the back of the tank, very small, inside a dark cave in the rock, etc.

So... I went searching on the net for something that resembles it. I couldn't find a small mushroom so I found the next best thing.

This pic obviously isn't from my tank, but it's almost exactly what it looks like except maybe the top is a little smaller compared to the stem. And my mushroom ovbiously doesn't have a brown handle :) :)

Hope it helps explain :\

Thanks,

Umbrella hydroid, though they don't often have the brown handle. ;)

It's impossible to tell without a picture, but a hydroid is a good guess. Even with a picture you would be best to check with someone like Dr. Shemik for a proper ID.

Um... I am serious... The pic I posted was the closest thing I could get to depicting it. :\ I took some pictures with a hightech non-digital camera and am waiting for the prints to come back, so I'll post them when they do. They should turn out better I think.
