info on nano cube

I've 12g JBJ nano that i bought awhile ago. I dont have any ideas about how this thing works and would like to have some advise please. I have 90g and had 55g sold to someone.

It looks like it has 3 chamers in back. what do you guys have in there? how often can i change waters? what else do you do to filter 12g tank? how will this filter without skimmer?

How can you keep everything so well inside this tine 12g tank? no calcium reactor, no skimmer, no refugium etc.. HOW?

Hahahahahh.

I have filter floss, LR rubble, chaeto, and Purigen...oh, and the pump in the chambers at the back.

I did weekly 3-4g WCs...no skimmer, nothing else. Just the filter floss and manual WCs.

No Ca reactor..., etc. I think there's a skimmer that fits inside the AIO tanks, but they're not worth the money.

The only things I have in the chambers of my NC12 are rubble rock and a heater. Mushrooms, zoas and most softies will do ok under stock lighting. If you want to keep other things like SPS and clams, then I would recommend you upgrade your lighting. Weekly water changes should be sufficient in terms of keeping your water parameters in check.

frogiii, what are you planning to keep?

You haven't set it up before? When I had mine, my first obstacle was keeping the temperature down.

That hood just doesn't move air very well and those power compacts do get pretty hot. Many people will find their temp creeping up to 82-85 in the summer time.

If you still have the original pump, get rid of it and get a MJ900, that will lower your temperature at least 2-3 degrees.

in my 24, i have the spong in the first chamber, a little sand rubble rock and chaeto in the second and my heater and carbon with the pump in the third. I cut the black backing off the center chamber and use a home depot reflector for a light on the fuge. works well.

I was going to use ASM mini G and refugium but, I noticed back of nano is also a glass. I though it was a plastic back. I was going to drill behind the overflow.

frogiii, if you really want to, you can drill the back glass. It's not tempered. You should really check out www.nano-reef.com because they all geeked out their cubes over there.

My friend drilled it with diamond bits, it just requires a steady hand and some patience.

it's not overkill, but it's not practical.

sometimes you can get carried away with the "upgrading/modding" mentality with the nanocube and forget that it's intended to be used as a all-in-one small reef tank. If you want to drill it and mod it to the max, it's best to just sell it and get another tank. It'll be simpler and neater in the long run.

I've seen guys that have taken the whole top of the nanocube off, and then hang a Viper MH + HOB skimmer out of the back compartment.

why?

just get a normal tank, then.
