Hey Guys,
I recently converted over from FW to SW and right now am running a 20 gallon with a canister, powerhead, 20 lbs of live sand and live rock, a marineland heater that came with the 20 gal and T247 Ocean Revive LED light fixture (to replace hood and led that came with the 20 gal marineland combo purchase). After doing some research and working with my budget I decided to order a 40 Gallon from Innovative Marine from their Fusion series. Here are the specs:
Aquarium:
40 Gallon Capacity
Ultra Thick 8mm High Clarity Glass / Low Iron
Leveling Rubber Mat
DIMS (24" x 20" x 19")
Flat Polished
Diamond Edge Polished
Black Silicone
Aluminum Framed Mesh Screen Lid/Clips
Filtration:
Acrylic Filter Wall w / Dual Overflows
(2) Adjustable Return Flare Nozzles
(1) 45W 110v/60Hz 476 Gallons Per Hour Pump
Designated Heater Column
Designated Skimmer/Reactor Column
Now - I am really new to reefing/SW setups, and I recently discovered that the setup I purchased only comes with pumps. From what I understand I will need a protein skimmer (haven't ordered yet, not sure what would be an optimal choice for my new setup). Any ideas?
Also - Will my tank cycle all over again? It looks like its still cycling from what I can tell (I have been testing it everyday and the readings are all over the place). It went from clear, to brown algae explosion to green algae explosion and now it cleared up after a decent water change. My live rock has turned brown where the lighting hits it, I turned down the lighting to slow down growth of algae. I am not sure if it is because of the water I am using (well water) but have purchased an RO/DI unit which has not yet been delivered yet.
Anyways - Any suggestions on what I can do with the overflow area in the back would be awesome!
