Instant Ocean Salt deal

I was in the old RMS on pearl now called Strongsville pet emporium or something like that. They had I.O. Salt in the 50 gal bags for 9.99 while supplies lasted. Just thought I would pass this deal along for anyone near by.

FYI... Dan carries the boxes with 4- 50gal bags inside for $39.95 so if the Salty Critter is easier for you to get to and you will use 4 bags then you can always get that price. Not saying you didn't find a nice deal. Those bags are usually around $13.

FYI, i managed to purchase some IO at petsplus this weekend, but the store manager said this was the last time he would pricematch to an online store.

Well you may have to pay another dollar but tell him Petsmart is not an online store. Instant Ocean 50gal bag $10.99

That'll make him happy.

do the local petsmart stores carry it at that price? i'll forego the pricematch and just buy it there.

For 9.99 a bag I'd rather spend my money at stores like Salty Critter or Pets Emporuim (although I've never been to PE). Heck, I drive 2 hrs r/t to SC and I'd pay $1 more a bag then spend my money at a Petsmart.
Just my 2 cents

Same here johndawg. Support your LFS whenever possible, and they'll be there with great livestock & dry goods & customer service. Besides, any excuse for a Salty Critter trip! And it's 2 hrs round trip for me too.

SC is certainly worth patronizing, but it's not always feasible to run to vermillion.

Perhaps we could set something up to have dry goods orders from SC to cleveland on a montly basis, such as to c-sea meetings. We all need salt mix on a regular basis.

greg10, i think dan will send some goods to the meetings if needed. call him, he seems to go out of his way to help. i agree that it's not always feasible to drive there. it matters what rig i would take, i would have to add $27.85 or $39 to my salt bill for fuel. also take a min. of 3 hrs for the trip. i do like to support my lfs, just not at economic destruction to myself.

Its not always easy to bring stuff to the meetings, sometimes its a tight fit in the car. I'd check with the person driving the stuff to the meeting first. I know I've personally been stuck brining a bunch of stuff I didn't have room for and wasn't all that happy about it. Kinda sucked actually stuffing it all in a single cab truck with a passanger. Oh well

lol
that time it was my wife.
With Tom buying 2 boxes full of livestock every other month things get heavy and bulky. :)

No, I think the regular Petsmart price is $14.99 or so. They will match the online price at Petsmart stores if you print the ad and bring it with you. I know people who just leave a copy in the glove box and they can stop at any time and get the Petsmart to sell it at that price.

Dan's regular price is somewhere around $12. I like the $9.99/bag price which is why I buy the box for $39.95 when I visit Salty Critter and I try to wrap my trip around some necessary items like food or bulkheads or something of the sort to help justify the gas spent. You can pretty much guarantee that you will make 200 gals of water at some point in the future so it just makes sense to buy the box (or $36 bucket if that's what you like)

I was under the impression that the RMS store that the original poster mentioned was on the way home or near their house and the pricematch made it very convenient for them to pick up salt when needed. That's why I mentioned the Petsmart pricing, I am not advocating shopping there. It could be used as a pricematch that is not an online store.

I have only bought mine from a couple of places so far. The first bag I bought when I was getting into the hobby was from a LFS and I paid $28.39 for the 50gal size :eek1:
After getting online and finding out how much I was ripped off I haven't been back there. I have gotten the $40/box price at Northcoast Aquatics and more recently Salty Critter.

It's 2 hrs round trip for me also... Seems Dan should open a store an hour to the East, West and South to keep us all happy doesn't it?

My salt mix supply is fine for the next month or two, but the next time, i'll try to venture out to SC.
