Instantreef faux coral inserts

Hi folks, perhaps the only suitable place for this, after some advice on the following company:

Instantreef.com

Have sent numerous emails to them but they don't respond - really after some of their products but you can understand my reluctance to ordering a 1000 bucks worth of gear from 6000 miles away if they don't even answer my queries.

Do you have the same problem over there with these guys?

Anbody have some of the're stuff - how do you rate it?

Anyone know of suitable alternatives? (I'm aware of dlmanwarren)

Yes, I know the thought of faux corals discussed on a coral forum might induce some vomitting but please keep answers positive and factual, butterflies are a passion of mine so can't keep real corals.

Mods - not sure if this is against the rules, being a non-sponsor so please feel free to act but contact me by pm to explain why if necessary to delete.

Any help appreciated

thanks
Ross

1.) I would do any business with anyone that didn't return email. 2.) I can't imagine the job of keeping algae off these inserts; just cleaning the old skeletal coral drove countless people from the hobby. 3.) Most butterflies do just fine without corals and plenty of mature live rock.

I reckon a toothbrush will do the job, unless its the really stubborn stuff. Butterflies do fine with only LR, very true, just doesn't look as good, especially 5 years down the line.

It can look very nice as long as you keep up with it. When I had my first FOWLR I kept live rock in the sump and cycled through bleached coral base rock and fake coral decor.

I will say it became a HUGE pain after a while and the look of very nice purple live rock was better for me.

What happened in the end - covered in algae?

Yep, algae and detritus. If you want to take the time to keep up with them, or have 2 sets so one is bleached and clean at all times it's not so bad, but if you think you are just going to pull them out and scrub them really quick you are wrong.

I guess it depends on your system and artificial corals. I have some from dlmanwarren that have been in an established tank for 4 mo. now and it only took a couple of minutes to clean each one with a brush. Maybe if coralline gets a foothold then it would be harder.

Not yet Manta. Im going to start a build thread soon on my rockwall aquascape with artificial corals. I'm using individual corals so that I can take them out and clean them. I think the problem with an insert is that you may not be able to reach everything. I agree that a tank with just rock and fish is pretty ugly. To each his own I guess.
