i am trying to teach my g. smithii that when i tap on the glass lightly then that means food, i have been doing this by tapping lightly 3 time then putting some mysis in the tank. How long should it take for him to learn that my presence meens food?

And how intelligent is a G. smithii?

My P. ciliata picked up that little trick in a week. The more often that you feed the quicker it will put pur the knck to food.

I did the 3 taps means food thing...and it backfired.

My G. ternatensis whacks in 3's ro get my attention, when she wants food.

Perhaps Dr. Roy can shed some light on this?

It is pretty loud, and has awakened me on more than one occassion (I work late, and sleep until noon or so, which she obviously thinks is too late).

heres one for you I dont know if its just the way he extended his tunnel or intelligence. I tried for weeks to get a good picture of my mantis. So i would place food at the top of the rock above his whole and sit for ages with my camera, for a while he would come out his hole in a flash straight round the back of the rock grab the food and back in his hole and all I got for a photo is a black blur.
Anyway after a few weeks of this I placed the food where I always did and............ he pops out of a new enterence at the top of the rock and disapears again without a trace lol.
so after months of having him i still dont have a picture of his whole body.
