I would remove any extra filtration when using interceptor. Replace it after you have done your water changes. If you don't want to waste any GFO, do your interceptor treatment when it's time to change it out.
Do you leave tank GFO-less during the entire 3-4 weeks of interceptor treatment? I assume if you put GFO back in reactor between the 3 separate Interceptor doses you need to throw the GFO out each time (may harbor red bug 'eggs'?). Is that why tanks often get the cyano bloom after interceptor regimen?
if you put your gfo back on line before all red bugs are gone wait 5-6 days before using because the red bugs could be in the gfo.red bug life span is 5 days with out acro's
I was thinking of storing the cartirage of GFO in RODI water while the tank is getting the Interceptor treatment. But then it occured to me that I don't KNOW for a fact that soaking in fresh water for 12 hours would wipe out these marine beasties. Probably better to go the 5-6 day life span route before putting the GFO back on line for a day or two before pulling it out again for the next round of Interceptor.
