This is a pretty good read on why sticks and fingers don't go well together. I remember when I started, the very first coral I bought was a finger leather. Got rid of that a long time ago...and just like the author all my acros starting growing. Crazy these sea living creatures!

interesting article. I have a green devils hand in the tank, doesnt grow much but may do exactly what the article states and not help in terms of my other SPS. Wonder if my toadstool leather does the same thing or just the devils hand.

Leathers are notorious chemical warfare aficionados. They're often pretty but definitely don't play well with SPS; especially when it's shedding time. Got rid of mine ages ago also.

A toadstool took out half my tank back in 'nam (that would be ~2005)...

Yep, the toadstool does the same I believe. If it sheds every once in a while...not good for other tank mates. You can run carbon to help. When I started out, i had a bunch of softies (nepthera, xenia, colt, kenya tree) and I couldnt get any of my SPS to grow. Like I previously mentioned, I got rid of the softies, and the SPS took off.

Thanks Joe. Looks like I will soon have a devils hand and a giant toadstool up for sale. I do run carbon and gfo and that probably does help a little. BTW red planet, Yuck and all others i got from you still looking good and happy.
