ok, so today i went to look at my tank and saw my acro shoot out a bright snow white Arm, followed by 2 lime green ones and 1 purple one. I have had this one for 7 months, never did this before.. I wonder what it has in store for me. Mind you, this was not even there yesterday, and from about 6pm to now its has grow longer.. I have never seen this growth before how wierd! Any explanations?

can you take some more detailed pics? If what you are describing is accurate this could be important to document.

I have to agree, acros don't grow like that and thats a white dead branch, Atleast with that pic thats what it looks like

Do the white and green branches have polyps? To be honest in the pic the whole colony looks kind of stressed. Does the rest of the colony have good polyp extension? Any more white or green branches since yesterday?

All we have to go by is this picture. It looks to me like there are two dead branches. One branch has been dead for some time (green) the other recently died. Maybe you can give us more detailed pics?

I agree w/ everyone else. SPS's can't deposit calcium fast enough to grow that much overnight. It is much more likely you had an "RTN" episode(Rapid Tissue Necrosis). The flesh of SPS corals can dissolve/necrose very quickly under certain cirumstances. That is what appears to have happened to that one branch, thus drawing your attention to it. Better pics would not hurt b/c if it is RTN you could loose the whole coral very fast...

I would like to think that someone would know the difference between a dead branch and a branch that never existed the previous day. This guy is claiming that he can assure that the branch wasnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t there the day before. It would seem counterintuitive and rude to berate him before he has the opportunity to post better pics. Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m awaiting the pics because if true it would be an extremely noteworthy occurrence. On the other hand, it does seem ludicrous for any acro to deposit that much skeletal structure in 24 hours. I have seen acro's put down approx. 1/4" in a single day, maybe more. I guess we will have to wait and see.

I agree - lets give him the benefit of the doubt - and don't mess with Ed - he is into firearms! :)

The main question was the one posted by fishdoc11 and that is : Do the "new" branches have visible and active polyps ? That is a question that I myself am curious about :)

I'ts ok dolt, I'm generally pretty passive. lol.

Indeed, the question of the hour is whether the "new" branches have polyps. I'm not one to doubt somebody before they are given a chance. However, this event would go against science.

ok to answer everyones question, Its all dead.. within 24 hours.. pretty puzzled.. everything else in the tank is well.. but the acro died.. not sure why. calcium and alk are perfect.. The temp got down to 74 this morning my heater is crapped out i believe.. I wonder if it made the difference? Either way i feel kinda stupid about posting this topic. it just seemed pretty weird. oh well live and learn..

well with an acro its hard to tell my friend they are finicky the temp could hae something to do oceans temp dont change at all lol
