which do you like more? all comments welcome.

i'm about to build a 5ft 3-sided starphire tank and am trying to decide. i will leave my back clear.

You may need to provide a little more detail. For example, if you're only going to have one overflow box, then putting it in the back middle, or in the case of a peninsula tank, on the side against the wall generally makes the most sense aesthetically. Do you need two drains and two returns?

If the choice is one in the middle or two in the corners then it's really just a question of real estate size, or if equal, what looks good to you keeping in mind how you want to layout your live rock.

is an external overflow an option? a coast to coast would be sweet on either a peninsula or regular! Just my .02

+1 coast to coast external, if you can do it. It maximizes the tank space, and looks A LOT cleaner since you don't have this "box" in your tank. Since you're going 3-sided starphire, I'm guessing it's most likely a custom build, so why not add a nice external overflow in the process?

I have a cost to coast overflow on one short side of my peninsula tank and I REALLY like it. It skims the surface really well. No "oil slicks" on the surface, ever. I suggest going with two drains, regardless of what you choose. It's safer and gives you more options.

Good luck.

tank will be 60x30x22", so its plenty deep for a 6" overflow.

i dont like the corner placement b/c viewing it from the sides, you would see all the PVC piping. i think i will have it placed off-centered, maybe about a foot from the left corner.

i'm not sure about the coast to coast. the tank will be flushed against the wall.

you won't like the "off center" either.... is you tank viewable from 3 sides? is so external coast to coast....

Easily taken care of by a black piece of acrylic or matching wood with your stand. Personally, completely depends on the tank and your thoughts as has been mentioned. I've had them all over and have no one exact perfect answer other than put it external if you have the room.
