Hi,

i have a kole tang in a 85gal tank, i was wondering if adding a Tomini tang is a good idea ?

is agression toward the same specie of tang (kole vs kole) or vs tang in general ?

i see plenty of tanks with mutilple tangs, but i also read that tang are territorial and it should be avoided du to agressive behavior... kinda lost as a newbie in reefing

thanks

No, they come from the same genus, and in a tank that small, there is sure to be aggression.

Agreed. Look into wrasses, dwarf angels, and other medium sized fish instead.

already have a duo of flameback angel (dwarf anggel). they doing great. i know some would say no to 2 angels, but they were introduced at the same time, and there is no agression. plenty of room and hiding place.

noted for the tomini... it's a no go.

You already have 3 grazers in an 85 gal. It is unlikely that there will enough 'territory' left for another grazer. The only way it might work is add nori daily.

As noted, having two of the same genus in an 85g and having the two introduced at different times is extremely unlikely to have a happy ending. When in doubt... don't!

I had a Kole Tang and a Lawnmower blenny in a 150g with lots of rock, and the Kole tang mercilessly chased the lawnmower blenny upon sight. The two occupy the same areas of the tank which I did not realize at the time, and the tang was 'protecting what was his.' I would even recommend a combtooth blenny with your tang after that experience.
