Introduction

Just wanted to stop by and say Hi and introduce my self.
I've been out of the hobby for a few years and just started back up. I'm fairly new to the STL area. I found your group and thought I'd see what everyone was keeping in their tanks. I was an active member in KC for years.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and I look forward to getting to know the STL group!

Setting up a 60 cube with a 120gal sump. Kessil 360 for lighting.

Welcome back. I was out for a decade, started back in a few months ago... oddly enough, with a 60g cube :) KC area... I was in KC until 5 years ago. You didn't know Mick's old KC 'Fishheads' group, did you?

60g cube, 120g sump... I'd love to see your plan, sounds interesting. I used to have a system where the sump was larger than the display, using a horse trough. Went more conventional this time... and smaller, much smaller.

Enjoy your re-entry into the hobby! I've found that equipment has improved somewhat, but that old knowledge is still quite applicable.

Yes Yes. I was part of the "fishheads" group.
I've always tried to have a large sump on my tanks but didn't like any of the sumps for the 60 cube so I went back to the good ole Rubbermaid sump.

I've always done halides in the past but after doing some homework I decided to give the LEDs a try so we will see how it goes.

I was active in the Fishheads group from it's inception, until about 8 years ago. Just used my name, Chris, with that group.

When I assembled my 60 cube, I built a stand that has a shelf all the way 'round. Gave me a lot more room for equipment and sump, but nowhere near enough for a horse trough :) I'm using an EShopps sump... it's got a few design issues, but I'm happy with it overall.

I also had halides. Never again. The heat, electrical usage, changing bulbs, lack of color/intensity control... LED's are great. After a good bit of research, I ended up with an Aquaticlife Halo. It's compact, cube shape just looks right to me over an open top rimless cube. Plenty bright, easily adjustable, internal timers... Depending on what you want to do with your tank, you might look at one.

Welcome :)

I got back into the hobby nearly a year ago with a 36 gallon bowfront. I'm currently in the final planning stages of a 180 gallon build after having spent the past several months gathering the equipment and procrastinating. I'm very good at procrastinating!

I too love the idea of a large sump. My 180 gallon tank is going to have a basement sump that will be at least 250 gallons to start.(maybe a little more) That will include a 150 gallon Rubbermaid trough, two separate refugiums, and a frag tank or two.

To SLASH on RC! Sounds like a nice setup in the works.

Welcome!!! Right now I'm working with a SPS heavy, mixed reef 28 gallon nano. Gathering all the goodies to set up a 54 gallon corner with a 60 gallon sump. I have the light, apex, doser, sump, heater, power heads, rock. Getting close.
