Hi
I am new to this forum (been keeping tropicals for 4 years) and am now going over to marine. This is my proposed setup. I will be keeping my tank (Jewel Vision 180) and Ehiem 2026, I will end up with:
Tank 40gal
20kg live rock
1" bed of sand
Deltec mce300 skimmer
Eheim 2026 (for mechanical, carbon and phosphate media)
4 x 24w T5 (2 white, 2 blue)
2 x powerheads
I stripped the tank last weekend and sterilized it, am now waiting for the equipment to arrive this weekend :) I am going to cycle it with the sand and 1 jumbo prawn, after this I will add the live rock and cycle again for a couple of months before adding cleaner crew.
I would like your suggestions on this to see if I have missed anything.
Many thanks for your help.

Barry

In order to have a properly working sand bed, you're going to need to go a little deeper. More like 3 inches. Also, I've always read, heard, and been told, not to use a tank if it was ever treated with copper.

Here's a place to start reading about your water chemistry : http://reefkeeping.com/issues/author/rhf.php

Sounds like you've got it all planned out, good luck and have fun.

Hi
Thanks for your input. I am using RO water and a 200w heater. I bought the Arcadia overhead luminaire (didn't have the choice of higher output bulbs, thats the largest I can have with a 36" unit). I dont have the option to buy a wall mounted lamp unit at present.

Hi Reef_bones
I have treated it with Interpet anti-whitespot a couple of years ago, but have been reading the spec of this and it states that it is safe with invertabrates. I am going to buy a copper test kit to see for myself.
