Introduction

You should get a good little skimmer and that should be the only filtration you will need. Get rid of the bio balls.

It's me again...After 4 days of live rock and sand...I just did my first "readings..."

pH - 8.0
Ammonia - 0 - 0.25
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 5.0

Was it too early to do these water tests? And because it's my first one...do these numbers really mean anything yet?

Welcome to RC and a fantastic journey! IMO the water params are still too early. Your ammonia and nitrates will spike then gradually decline to zero. I used a couple of star fish to help cycle my tank (yeah surprisingly one of them made it). Others use damsels to help but see if your LFS will take the damsels back after you're done. No matter what, it will take time.
