iodine

i read somewhere that iodine helps light damaged corals regain their color. is this true?? i would like to try it if it is true, because i have some semi-bleached corals. (i had my light to close to my tank)

does it really help semi-bleached corals regain their color?

get a seachem or salifert test kit to see where your levels are. It depends on what you are keeping and how much they use it up. I have to add 2 capfuls every other day to maintain my levels.

Try Clayton Pet or a close by LFS. Call them first. They might test for you.

i know, i just stubled across some reading that said it can help semi bleached corals regain their color, if that is correct then i will start testing for it and dose it.

^^ if that statemetn is incorrect then i will not even bother with it at all.

I've only heard about it used for some soft corals and inverts. It's actually a poison that irritates the inverts so they molt to eliminate it.

my guess is you are low-contact MS and CPE and see if they can do it for you. It would be way too hard for us to meet this week for a test. JMHO I would dose a small amount anyway since you have so many softies.

I keep mine at 0.07mg/l if not higher! as I stated before it all depends on what you are keeping-if you have alot of stiffs, I mean sps then alot of iodide is not good-get a test kit and adjust according to what you system uses. One drop would be absurd!!!!!!!!!! in my system but good in Chads system-but you wont know what your system requires until you test it
