I have a Foscam FI9821W 720p wireless camera for the basement to see what the kidos are doing during the day while I'm at work and also to keep an eye on the tank.

Maybe this camera doesn't seem to have the ability or I'm doing something wrong but because my tank is bright it looks washed out. I tried turning down the brightness but doesn't really work.

Any Ideas?

Here's a screenshot.

That camera is not going to expose the room and the tank properly in a single exposure; the range of brightness is too large.

I have a lesser Foscam ip cam and a similar issue with tank versus not tank. Yours looks better than mine.

I just set up a new camera from my ISP and was going to make it pretty much dedicated tank cam.

I have the same webcam. What you see is as good as it'll get, as the camera doesn't have enough control over certain settings. If you use a different lens that brings the tank closer to fill the frame, contrast and lighting is a little better.

Where can I get a lens? What size does it need to be for these cameras?

I can't seem to find my lens order in my e-mail, but I bought a 2.8mm-16mm lens pack for my FI9821W V2 similar to this one. The thread needs to be M12x0.5mm. I believe that I've got the 6mm lens on it right now because at the distance my camera is from the tank, it shows the full tank on the screen without zooming in. So you know, one drawback to these lenses is that you'll wind up with some barrel distortion (depending on the lens, it could almost look like a fish eye lens). My 6mm has it, but it's really not that bad.
