Just bought the Apex App for the Droid. Works great. Nice to have everything as a widget right on my home screen. Opened up the port for my Apex and now I'll be able to keep an eye on it even when traveling. Thanks for this great thread.

Do you know if this works for a Palm pre phone? Do you have to rebuy the app if you change phones? Also do you download from your phone or computer?

I wish they had more quality apps for us low-tech guys not using a RKE or ACII module to run our setups. Like a nice logbook with places for pictures to monitor the qualitative characteristics of our tanks (algae growth, coral color, fish behavior).

you can use the program I wrote to web enable ACII and AC jr to make it work like an Apex and use aquanotes iphone app. The only catch is you need the controller to be hooked up to a computer.

I'll be updating the program to include streaming video using a cheap usb webcam.


I just use google document spreadsheet for my maintenance log. that way I can access the spreadsheet from my iphone or any computer on the internet.

Two other apps of noted interest are AquaStatix, which is used to store tank params, and iTank Calc, which was created by a RC member, and is used to calculate tank volumes.

I also use Aquanotes with my Apex on my iPod touch. Awesome app, and helped me justify buying the iPod Does anyone know if there's a widget feature for the iPhone/Pod version?

that is correct. there is some limitation due to neptune not providing the capability, like you cannot update the controller program or invoke feed mode, but everything should work and make any third party program think it is connected to an AC3, it even has the AC3 web interface, including the graphing feature. I have added macro feature to enhance scheduling capability like turning devices on/off in seconds, email works with SSL email servers, can send to multiple recipients (like a text message to your phone and an email), stream video to your phone, etc.

What I would love to see from an iPad app:

1. Ability to record tank/testing parameters/results
2. Ability to schedule dosings/water changes/bulb replacements with reminders
3. Ability to record fish/coral livestock with pics

HenryH's Apex App works great on my Verizon Incredible with my ACIII. With the paid version I monitor my Time, Graphing, Temp, pH, and Ca Rx. It allows you to update the control status of anything on the controller.

With the unpaid version you can monitor everything, but not update any controls.

IMO for $2.99 it's one of the best apps I have.

Hey Chris,
I got two apps for my ipod touch that are pretty decent so far. I emailed the developer of the one with some suggestions to make it better and he is working on it since this is the first release.

Aquaplanner will take care of your 2nd requirement. You can setup all reminders and schedule maintanence, bulb changes, dosing, etc.

Aquastatix will take care of your 1st requirement. You can record all parameters. My only complaint with this one is we don't test for half of the ones in this app and I would love to delete or hide the ones I don't use. But it will graph and track all parameters.

And as OP have said aquanotes app is awesome. I control everything from my ipod. If I'm traveling I log in through my router.

I have the app on my Android for the Apex Lite. It works great. Occansionally my phone may lose connection and it comes up with an HTML error but selecting the app and opening to the screen usually resolves the problem. The free app is great for monitoring the tank. You can then use the web to make any controller changes if the need arises on the smartphone. The paid version allows this to be done in one less step.
