In Memoriam
For those interested in UFC, Pride or any other MMA stuff, I will be fighting nov. 18th at the Hammond Civic Center, I believe I am fighting Mark Burch of Duneland Vale Tudo. but had heard maybe Herc Hayes from Combat-DO in cicero we'll see...I should be cleared by my doctor assuming my knee is healed up....all reefcentral members get free autographs and dropletts of blood. :)

I saw you plate at John's and wondered if you were actually fighting, or just a big fan. I guess I know now. Good luck.

Very cool. If I lived closer I'd be there.

Up here in Kenosha, WI there is a camp that Dave Strasser runs. They have an event this weekend (Saturday night) in Racine.

Good Luck

Yep...been a fighter for years...started in '97 fought for a few years and got tired of it...got off roids, put on 75 #'s and quit training....then started training again recently....I've been cardio training a lot and working on submissions...my standup is good, and I can throw some bombs...my takedowns & ground game is average....against someone really versed in submissions I often leave myself open to arm bars...so I am working on that....my biggest problem right now is a small tear in my acl & pcl....I am going down to Indy to Dr. Shellborne who does the colts & pacers knee work....I'm hoping I can fight and wait on surgery...as if I can't fight in Nov. I don't know if I ever will again...the girlfriend is ready to kill me...she absolutly hates it...she doesn't want to see me get beat up or hurt.

Too bad you're not closer...I could help you with your takedowns and ground game

I could use it...my sprawl is pretty good...but often time when I shoot, I end up face down on the mat

Quit leaning and bring your hips! Don't get caught strung out, knee to knee!(Duck Walk) If you want, send me a video of one of your bouts...I can offer you a few pointers

I work better at the far ends of the spectrum. I have good stand up skills, and good submission/ground skills. My transition between the two is shaky. I'm better off to have somebody force the fight to the ground rather than try to take them down myself.

That's dangerous....you never want to be in a position in a fight where you have no control. thats it!!....we're starting a CMAS takedown clinic!

tell me about it. I wrestled in grade school and a year in high school, but I was never very good. I can defend takedowns to the extent that I make it to the ground on my own terms for the most part, I just have a hard time taking a skilled wrestler down (as it should be). If they decide they want me on the ground, I have no qualms and will go willingly.

I've trained with some good wrestlers from a MMA standpoint: Matt Hughes, Brian Ebersole, Jason Chambers, Jim Chiakowski (sp?), just never had the opportunity to really concentrate on the takedown aspect.

Get out! You trained with matt hughes!? Talk about an idol! Did you see what he did to Joyce Gracie (sp?) That was sheer wrestling dominance...however very elementary

I was actually his sparring partner before he started training with Pat Miletich. He was training with Joe Goytia near midway. I got partnered up with him cause we were about the same weight. He is STRONG!!

Royce never had a chance. Matt is making a case for him to be considered the most dominant UFC Champion of all time.

I haven't watched in years. I think UFC 5 or 6 was the last one I saw some 12 yrs ago. Loved it when Hackney(sp) beat the crap out of the guy after he broke his wrist. His hand was just flopping on the end of his arm, but still managed to kick some butt. Tank Abott, when he dropped the hawian guy who was left twiching. But I think my fav back then was the wrestler, Severns? Big guy, brown hair and a mustache. He was like a god in Japan if I recall correctly. Makes that RAW stuff look so silly. I know the non-fighting wrestlers have to do a lot of training and be in great shape to pull off those stunts, but nothing beats a real fight.

Dan "The Beast" Severns. I remember reading how many fights he has been in, I think it's in the thousands and counting. Amazing

I went to one of Pats camps over in good ole Bettendorf<sp> Iowa...Jeremy Horn was there, and I got to train with him, and I also went to one at Marc Colemans Hammer House...it was good as well, but its hard to learn anything in just a day or two.

Speaking of Hackney... When is the last time Keith fought?? He lives a block away from me and went to school with my mom, heard alot about him but never seen one of his fights. Heard he was good though.
