Irritation after new filter sponge added

I just added in a new filter sponge and now almost all lps and mushrooms seem to be very irritated, lots of slime. Any ideas? I washed the sponge for one or two minutes under filtered water then added it to my tank. Also protein skimmer is going ballistic pumping out alot of micro bubbles. is this going to cause long term damage? I just did a 10 gl water change on a 80 gl system when I saw the irritation start

Snails are closed and at the bottom of the tank, filter sponge that was introduced is removed. all LPS and SPS corals are closed and hammer coral is slimming heavily, all mushrooms are, for lack of a better word, purging their insides. Someone, anyone, please help!:worried2:

What exactly was the "filter sponge" you added? We need a lot more details to even begin assisting. Was it a filter sock you washed in beach, something off the shelf at a LFS, something for a hang on back filter... could be any of those options all with possible different issues.
