Is a 47" stand too tall?

I agree it's personal preference as long as it's stable and we'll designed. My new 200 gallon is on a 46" stand built into the wall. With the tank being 27" tall it is perfect eye level height for me and most average height people. It wasn't a picnic lifting it up there though. Lol

I did a 40b with a 40" tall stand. What I did was measure to the inside of your elbow like you are reaching in the tank to scrub the glass and minus the tank height+ about 2" or so. I wanted to go as tall as I could while not having to use the stepladder. My reason isnt for viewing tho. Mine is because I have a 1.5 year old I want nowhere near the glass yet...LOL

When I built my own stand for a 40 breeder recently I messed up and forgot to subtract the 3.5 x 3.5 inches so 7 inches the 2x4 added and I cut them 36 inches. It honestly was too tall in my opinion and I'm 6 ft tall.

I went back and cut 6 inches off the uprights for height. Now it sits at a perfect 37 inches for stand height and with the tank 54 inches high. Plus it's a ton more stable and I have plenty of room in the sump to work. That is eye level for me sitting at my computer chair.

This is mine, obviously not finished and work in progress.

my cabinet is about 40 inches tall and aquarium is 24 inches on top of that. so 64 inches. Im 6ft2 so needed a higher aquarium, i will have to use a stool to place corals.

This gives you some idea of the height...
