Is a garden hose safe for reef?

Long story short, my RO system is now in the shed outside. The water outlet is a distance away so I have to use some sort of hose to get it attached (lets say 50 feet). Is a garden hose safe to use to run the water to the RODI? If not, what can I use? Since its outside, im concerned about using a clear hose due to algae buildup.

Thanks!

Don't take my word but the osmosis across the membrane then the wash through the DI resin would catch anything leached off by the garden hose.

Just think of it this way most pipes in modern homes are copper and if the ro/di can take the copper out of those pipes why wouldn't it remove the stuff from a garden hose?

i am trying to use it before the filter. The other problem is the pressure that will be coming out of the end of the hose. 75 feet of hose probably decreases pressure by quite a bit.

Oh and here we thought you were concern with toxin. IMO 75' is long, but should have enough pressure for ro/di filter.

I have used a garden hose to transfer water into my tank for water changes. I have been using it for 5+ years and never seen a problem. I make sure that I clean the pump and hose with regular water after use so nothing in there sits and collects. Other then that you should be fine if you cut off the metal tip to the hose so it does not rust.

Once the water is backed up against the filter it won't matter how long the hose is pressure will be the same

You can also buy foodgrade hoses, typically used for RVs. I bought a 50' foodgrade hose (white) from Home Depot.

That's what I would do. I'm not admitting I've ever run over a green hose , but I don't buy hoses that blend in anymore.
