Is ABS Pipe Safe to Use?

so many times I have seen negative stuff about ABS, but as far as I can tell from lengthy research, claims that is has anit-bacterial components seem to be false. There are plenty of aquariums run with it. But, just so you know, you can get black PVC as well.

I just got some in from SAVKO myself. :)

Thanks jnarowe. I didn't know there was black PVC. In the interest of time, I would like to use PVC (Idoubt that I can find black pvc locally), but if I can't get comfortable with it, I will order some black. Thanks again for the input.

Thanks hebygb. It looks a little over my budget, so maybe I will have to hope the white gets covered with coraline quickly.

spray paint it with krylon fusion paint.

ive had abs in my heavy acro tank for nearly 4 years serving as the standpipe in place of an overflow.

I have always hit/nibed the surface of pvc/asb with some sandpaper. the rough surface seems, yes i am saying "seems" to grow coraline faster.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm glad to kinow that some of you are using ABS in your tanks without negative results. I like some of the fittings that are available in ABS, so I am seriously cosidering going that way now. Has anyone else had any personal experience using ABS int their reef tank?

i've used it on my reef tank for a little over a year now and all is going well so im assuming it is safe......
