I've found myself curious about this lately. As I understand it carbon dosing leads to bacterial blooms, at the same time a cryptic zone is full of organisms that seem fine tuned to consume bacteria. Of course the cryptic zone organisms would be metabolizing all the N and P that the bacteria had taken up and dumping it back into the tank as inorganic salts and some pods and the like, but some of it would be locked up in sponge growth too I'd imagine. Anyone doing anything like this?
