Is dead (white) coraline algae safe?

I need to dust off my old tank to move an aggressive fish asap. My old tank had quite a bit of coraline algae before I drained it (a year ago), but now its mostly white. Will I be ok if I start using the tank as is or do I need to get the dead algae out first?

i think u get the loose stuff off then mabe just test 1st

Put the fish in a refugium or sump or fish-safe container. The old tank will undoubtedly have another cycle once you fill it up.

What if I take water and rock from my current system to fill the smaller tank?

it's mostly just calcium, you really shouldn't have any problems IME.

No problems.

Squirt it with vinegar and let it sit for a half hour and the calcium should wipe right off.

as far as i know i have scraped my tank that was full of coralline with fish and inverts inside, all the algae fell on sand, rock, corals and turned white, all i did is blew it off corals with turkey baster to no ill effects, good luck
