He is not. Most likely he is a cross between a Black Ocellaris and an Percula. This cross is called Black Photon

This guy is not yet a year old, so it'll be interesting to see how the color develops this year. Based on the pictures at the sea and reef website, I think he looks a tad closer to an onyx than the black photon. But time will tell I guess. Hopefully I have a breeding pair.

His eye coloration show that he is mostly Ocellaris. That was why I said that he is a mixed, instead of a Onyx which is a full Percula.

Yes, I see. Either way I'm happy. I bought my tiny pair at a LFS which just listed them as plain clown fish for $12 each.
$12 is a win no matter what it is!

Nice group of avitar you've got. I was into discus many years ago too. Lots of fun, especially watching the young grow up. They would charge you and smash into the front of the glass to protect their young, did NOT want you close to the tank. They were like dogs, I could get them to go from left to right side of my 210, by running side to side. Hilarious fish to have.

Yeah discus are the kings of freshwater fish but they need lots of daily work to keep them in tip top shape. I think this is why I'm doing so well with my 5 gal Pico tank which is my introduction to a reef tank. The need to keep nitrates to near zero is in my blood!

Keep Nitrates near zero is easy in a reef tank. All you need is a deep sand bed or one of those block filer media.Water change needed to keep micro nutrients to acceptble level. This need not be a lot of water change. 25% monthly is plenty. I change 10% weekly in a 500 gal system.
