Hello.
I have some pest anemones in my tanks. I am not sure if it is majano or aiptasia. I need help for identification.
Thank you.

Thank you for replies.

@griss exactly i am not sure about source of the live rock. I get it from local fish supplier. I am sure doesn't know either.

I am trying to determine if Berghia nudibranchs might be a solution. I know they don't eat Majano.

When did you buy the rock? Can you post a larger pic of the rocks? The reason I ask, if it’s gulf or Caribbean rock, we can confidently rule out Majanos…unless you got one or more as hitchhikers on a coral😉

If Aiptasia, Berghias are your best, natural, reef safe bet. But, they will die off when the Aiptasia are gone.

Next best natural option, IMO, Peppermint shrimp. Then, various Butterfly fish but, they may pester other inverts.

I talked to the local fish supplier and he says I have had these rocks for at least 10 years.:D But unfortunately he doesn't know the source.
It's not very high quality, but I tried to take a photo. Photos from my two different tanks.

Unfortunately, I do not have the chance to obtain peppermint in my country. My only option is Berghia. If Aiptasia isn't my problem, I don't want to starve the Berghias to death.:(

Thank you so much for your helps. I just ordered Berghias.

What do you think about the anemone below?
I am trying to set up an Aiptasia farm :D for the berghias I ordered in case they go starve. The ones in the photo are anemones I cut from a friend's tank. Their color is yellowish white. The tank has low light illumination and it's not a reef, it's fish only tank.

Is this also Aiptasia?

Hmm while they don’t have the bubbly tips, those look more like Majano to me than Aiptasia. I’ve never seen “colorful” Aiptasia (just brown and almost clear). The yellowish color leads me to think of a bleached green color which is common in majano.

But I’m not 100% certain

I was going to post this exact response.

Hello. Thank you for replies.

Yesterday I asked the same question to real Aiptasia experts: Bergias😁😁
I fed the Berghia tank with these anemone. They ate it all :D If Berghia strickly feeds only on Aiptasia, then I think they are also a type of Aiptasia. Isn't it?

I would agree, if the Berghia ate them, they are Aiptasia. Berghia don’t eat Majanos.

Yes, they look quite different. In fact, I must say that they even look pretty. In my friend's tank, they created a daisy garden-like appearance on the rocks.:)

Another way that can help get rid of them is to use kalkwasser made into the consistency of a paste or thick syrup. Put some in one of those plastic syringes and very slowly apply to the anemones mouth. Once it closes up cover the whole anemone in the mixture.
Super glue also works, apply it in the same fashion. i used it straight from the plastic bottle it came in when i had an issue in the past.
You can do quite a few each day or night.
