Is it mean to have a clown but no nem?

J.russell

What was I thinking???
Reason I ask is because Id like to add a clown into my tank eventually but not too sure if I want a nem again.

I had a LTA a year ago in my old tank and didnt have much luck. My fault for not having a proper set up when I purchase him.

Now however I have a good running system but my tank is really tall and Im affraid he will want to be on the bottom in the sand and feeding will be a PITA.

No powerheads for him to get stuck in this time though :o

I remember my clowns doing that too but didnt know if they "should" have a nem. I thought that all clowns had one in the wild.

I have a pair of captive bred occelaris clowns that will NOT host in anything at all!
I've tried Rose bubble tip, green bubble tip, sebae anemones and nothing! My old Sebae Clowns however, would've hosted in anything at all, frogspawn, xenia, goniopora you name it.
So I guess that all clowns are different,so it may cost a few bucks before you find a good paring up.
So long,Pete
P.S- My old Sebae Clowns were wild caught,so that factor may count for lot, they were just nasty to everything else!

Clown fish do just fine without a Nem. It is not necessary. But if you want one I would get the NEM first and grow it very large from feeding and light. Or buy a very large one from the get go. Then introduce a pair of clowns now that your system and parameters are established and you know what you are doing.
